CONFUCIUS TEMPLE IN NANJING
Having learned the WAY in the morning,
it’s quite all right to DIE that very evening.
-- Confucius
Inside the dim temple
the starving Confucius says
Having learned the WAY in the morning
it’s quite all right to DINE that very evening
Outside the temple
lights hanging over the eatery stalls
glitter with splendor
Crowds attracted by the aroma of food
pour in like ants
* Several years ago we toured the city of Nanjing in China. One of the tourist
attractions was the nightly food market in front of the Confucius Temple. This
poem was written right after our visit to the market, with a quote from one of
the Confucius sayings.

»
-- Confucius
À l'intérieur du temple plein d’obscurité,
Confucius, affamé, a dit :
(French translation by Athanase Vantchev de Thracy)
